Welcome to sweet home Chicago, where it’s currently about 7 degrees (that’s T-shirt weather, as my friends in Ottowa like to tell me). It’s a good day to stay in a cozy kitchen, clean out the pantry and fridge, and plan next week’s meals.
I’m not making any New Year’s resolutions this year (I rarely ever keep them), but I am doing a sort of health and wellness reboot — I’m going veg. To that end, I’ve gathered a few resources from around the web for inspiration…
Naturally Ella: 2018 January Pantry Reset
Out with the old, in with the new… black-eyed peas, that is. Erin of Naturally Ella is ringing in 2018 with a month-long series on resetting your pantry. Her practical and veg-friendly tips include everything from grain and legume storage to container suggestions to quick and healthy recipes you can whip up with just a few pantry items. Check out her YouTube series here.
My New Roots: Golden Milk
I’ve never heard of golden milk before (though I am aware of the anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin), but leave it to a Scandinavian to help you discover new horizons beyond the standard American diet. Sarah Britton offers this modern twist on Ayurvedic golden milk — complete with historical info and lovely photos — at her vegetarian blog, My New Roots.
Love & Lemons: Healthy Vegetarian Dinner Recipes
With the recent cold snap, comfort food is where it’s at. Fellow Chicagoan and veg blogger Jeanine kicked off her year with a roundup of tasty and warming favorites over at Love & Lemons. I am definitely gonna try the Crispy Butternut Squash & Poblano Tacos and Vegan “Cheesy” Broccoli Soup. My daughter is into these sweet potatoes and fixins — yum!
There’s so much more to explore at each of the above blogs; I’m excited to start my own vegetarian journey. A happy and healthy New Year to you and yours, and happy cooking!
